We did it

We finally got moved.
What a mess.
What a long way to drive 4 times a day for 3 days to get everything.
What a lot of junk I had and left.

No more gunshots. Oh wait, there’s one now. A hunter.
No more startling noises. Ahhh, except those C-130s flying overhead because I’m that close to the air base.
No more nosy neighbors. Except that guy who pulled up yesterday saying “Hey Neighbor!” and followed us right on into the house.
No more thumping rap music going past my house! Um, except from that white redneck looking dude in the pick-up truck that just drove past. Seriously.

Those are all ok.
These will take some getting used to:
No more short drives to work.
No more quick trip to the Wal-Mart to pick up just one thing.
In fact, no more quick trips anywhere.
And the worst of all, NOOOOOOO, No more NETFLIX!!!!

I really was spoiled to having those movies delivered right to my door. I just went to netflix.com to change my address, and it tells me they don’t deliver to my area yet. I really love movies but really loathe going to the video store and paying ridiculous prices for a rental. I haven’t been to a video store in about 6 years. It was so so easy just to go online and watch previews and have a long list of movies just waiting to be mailed to me. I REALLY WILL MISS NETFLIX!!!! YES! It meant that much to me!

If it sounds like I’m having regrets about where I moved to, I’m not. I love it.

But at least comcast cable and internet is available here, and I’ll be getting that next week.
So where am I typing this from now? My daughter Julie came to visit me today and accidentally left her Cricket internet device here. hehe. Using it before she comes back to get it.

Man, I’m really tired. But content.

  • Wow! That’s a lot of trips back and forth!
You know, once you get your broadband internet hooked up, there’s an alternative way to get your movies. Wink, wink. ;)

Damnit I was just about to say that Mac! I mean PayPerView of course ;)

Hope you’ve moved in and settled though Mel, good luck with it! So just how rural is this area? Pastoral, or just way out in the swamp, err I mean sticks?

    Oh yeah, forgot something….

Gonna make you squeal like a pig girl! ;)

Well, since you have comcast (and friends in NWAR report it’s pretty good), you can just do Netflix downloads, eh? And I’m sure you must visit WallyWorld every now and then and it now has those nifty lil $1 DVD rental machines, so you’ll be able to satisfy your movie adiction one way or another. I watch a lot of movies online at some of the free sites, record most of the TV shows I watch using the TV card in my main box, etc. Never lack for interesating video when I want to view stuff, but then I don’t watch much anyway, really.

    Rednecks and rap. Whatta mix.

“Hey neighbors” can be a boon. Ya just have to set some boundaries.

C-130s. *heh* Recalls the days living just off post (Fort Sill) and listening to “touch-and-go” night exercises ALL NIGHT LONG… with two babies in the house. Made 2:00 feedings for the youngest a relief. ;-)

“Quick trip to WallyWorld” is a 15-minute jaunt here, as well. But at least there’s a Subway w/in 3 miles of twc central (on the highway, naturally).

Ya get used to alla that stuff, eventually. Took a good five years before I was thoroughly “de-citified”. Now, I gripe every time another traffic light is installed in America’s Third World County (there were none when we moved here. Not one.)

One thing I hope you never get used to is the elbow room. Looking up at a night sky that’s not completely washed of stars by city lights: that’s something you can’t get at the local metroplex. You’ll learn to not reach for the phone when you hear gunshots during deer season. ONE of you WILL get a gun rack for the pickup. *heh* (If you don’t have a pickup now, just wait.)

    Enjoy your new home.

  • OK I’m going to answer these out of order… just because there’s one comment that requires my immediate response:

Rich? Squeal like a pig? HOW? WHAT DID YOU DO? WHAT WILL YOU DO??? LOL

Mac, not really because my PC is so old it barely has enough hard drive space and memory for even the small stuff, and this new macbook pro, well it’s not MINE, it’s the company’s, assigned to me, and I’m just scared to use it like that.

David, I think I’m getting used to just about everything now. Except I just found out that comcast is NOT in my area, AFTER they scheduled an appointment to hook it up. But I did find the local cable company today and they’re cheaper anyway.

SORRY THESE REPLIES TOOK SO LONG! Read post above

  • Congratulations! It does take getting used to not having everything just a quick ride away. I miss that and am trying to adjust myself. Just requires planning, I suppose. As for movies, we can share! I have tons. Let me know some movies you wanna watch, and I will see if I have them.

How you liking your new hours?
